Missions of First Presbyterian Church of Hammond
A Prayer Shawl Ministry
If a member of our church has an operation or is on Hospice, the Shawl Prayer knitters send a prayer shawl to comfort them. They meet once a month in the Presbyterian House.
Yoga Ministry
Judy Lovelady, Yoga master, meets in Anderson Hall every Monday morning from 9:30AM to 11:30AM for Chair yoga. Anyone interested is welcome to come!
Family Reach
This ministry brings families in crisis to the church for a week long intervention. Kathy Newton sets this up for volunteers to help 4 times a year
Oceans Ministry
Oceans Behavioral Hospital – Hammond provides comprehensive behavioral health care, from hospital-based treatment when safety and structure are needed most to structured therapy programs that support continued recovery and balance. Our church members donate coloring books, crayons, playing cards, used paperback books, comics from the newspaper, and used puzzles for the enrichment of the patients. Drop off boxes are in Anderson Hall and hallway between kitchen and Sanctuary.

Kairos Lunch Ministry at SLU
The Lunch Ministry is a partnership with First Methodist Church which provides lunch for any SLU student. Jeannie Jones coordinates this effort along with many of our church members.
Restoration House
Restoration House is a joint ministry which helps mothers and their babies in the Hammond areas. We sponsor Baby Bottle Month when bottles are distributed on Mother's Day, filled with loose change and returned on Father's Day. Mission Chair- co-ordinator
Coins for Christ
Coins for Christ is scheduled for the 3rd Sunday of each month to collect funds for the Tangi Food Pantry. Many of our church members volunteer their time to assist in the operation of the Food pantry and offer food to eligible people.

The Shower Ministry
The Shower Ministry provides hot showers, fresh clothes and food for the homeless in our community. We partner with the Center of Hope, other churches, businesses and community members to make each Friday from 8:30 to 11 a safe place to come.

Christmas Angel Tree and Easter baskets
Church members provide Christmas presents through the Angel Tree program and Easter baskets for CAS children in the foster care system. Co-coordinators are Deborah Sessor and Janet Bornkessel
Small Things
This ministry builds wheel chair ramps 2 times a year for people who are not able to get the project completed themselves. JB Lovelady- co-coordinator
Scouting
First Presbyterian helps fund the registration for a Hammond Scout Troop. Co-Ordinator, Judy Lovelady
Lunch Bag Ministry for the homeless
Janet Bornkessel, director of the Tangi Food Pantry, puts together bags that have the essential nutrients for a person's daily needs.
